It is reported that Samsung has been producing LCD panels in South Korea and China. In March 2020, Samsung Display, the company's panel manufacturer, said that it will end all LCD panel production by the end of 2020, including three large-size LCD panel factories in South Korea and those that have not been reported before. The 8.5-generation line in Suzhou with the news of leaving the factory.
But by the end of December 2020, foreign media reported that due to the increased consumer demand for home entertainment equipment during the new crown virus pandemic, the company announced that it would extend the production time of LCD panels for TVs and monitors.
At the end of May this year, Choi Joo-sun, CEO of Samsung Display, said in an e-mail to employees of the large-size panel business unit that the company is considering extending the production time of large-size LCD panels to the end of 2022.
In addition to Samsung, Samsung's competitor, South Korean LCD panel maker LG Display, has also postponed plans to discontinue LCD panels.
It is reported that LG Display originally planned to stop producing LCD panels in its South Korean factory before the end of last year, but due to the growing market demand for LCD panels, the company decided to extend the production time of LCD panels by another year until the end of this year.
